After sewing for more than 30 years and studying Old World Art for three years, I now create extraordinary fine art inspired by nature and current events using oil paint, watercolor, acrylic, and textile mediums. I am the owner of T Lee Art & Design, an art gallery and studio, located in the Village of Stone Mountain, Georgia where I display and sell my original works. You can find my works exhibited at various galleries and museums in the Southeast. I continue to develop my creativity by painting with several artist groups and organizations in Atlanta, Georgia. I am very excited about my exploration as a fulltime artist and I invite you to continue with me on my journey.
For some artists, their works are part of their life’s journey. For me, my works are also a new beginning. I lose myself in my art, and when I awaken, my art is something that I have created just in that magical moment. It cannot be duplicated. That’s what makes the journey so fascinating and exciting. I am always surprised by the creation.
I use water color and acrylic in my paintings. My favorite medium is oil because it’s as smooth as butter. Oil paint has a sensual feel that makes it easy to cover a surface and blend beautiful colors together. Most of my oil paintings are landscapes, seascapes, and still life from realism, visions, dreams, and photos I have taken. For example, my oil painting “Freedom Butterfly” is an abstract of nature and is very personal because its inspiration is my desire to live my life in the present.
My textile quilts represents historical events. I choose notable events and depict the stories in quilted designs. For example, the first of the Michael Jackson series represents his brilliant branding and has more than 800 Swarovski crystals hand sewn on a replica of his glove. Everyone can relate to the glove, and the brilliance of the glove portrays the brilliance of the person. I love surprise and intrigue. My quilts always have an element of surprise. I want the viewers to keep looking until they discover that element of surprise.
I also use textiles to make beautiful handbags. They are inspired by my need to charm art collectors who appreciate wearable art. They are simple designs made of various fabrics like suede, leather, tapestry, silk, satin, and canvas. What makes them special is the enamel on copper embellishments on the outsides, and the silk linings with embroidered inscriptions on the insides. I even add the element of surprise with my handbags. For example, the SMART (Stone Mountain ART) handbag, when folded, can be carried as a small clutch with a handle and wallet that snaps. But, when the bag is unsnapped, it unfolds and becomes a large carpet bag that can be used for shopping.
My work is part of my journey. Join me on my journey, and you will learn as much about me through my art as I will learn about myself.
